Trishul frigate build in St. Petersburg on Indian order to be tested in Finnish Gulf

The Trishut frigate built at the Baltiisky shipyard on an Indian order, has put to sea for performance tests.

The first stage is a two-week test of all navigation systems in the Finnish Gulf. Later on, the frigate will sail to the town of Baltiisk /the Kaliningrad region - the Russian conclave on the Baltic Sea coast/ where the ship's machinery and armament systems will be tested throughout August. By this moment, the Indian crew of the Trishul will have completed a theoretical training course and will be ready to start practical exercises at sea.

The Trishul is the second out of the three frigates, which the Baltiisky shipyard is building for the Indian Navy. The ship's construction started in September 1999 and was completed on November 24th 2000. The man-of-war is expected to be handed over to the customer in November 2002.

The ship's length is 124.8 metres, width - 15.2 metres. The 4,035-ton-displacement frigate is capable to sail at a speed of up to 30 knots. It is armed with the Klab-N anti-ship missile complex with 8 self-homing missiles, an artillery complex, the Shtil-1 multi-channel naval middle-range anti-aircraft complex, the Kashtan anti-aircraft gun and missile complex, eight Igla portable anti-aircraft complexes, two torpedo launchers and a twelve-barrel bomb launcher. In addition, the frigate can carry one Ka-28 or Ka-31 naval helicopter.
