Landslide in Daghestan leaves 40,000 people without water and electricity

A landslide in Daghestan (a Russian republic in the North Caucasus) has left 40,000 people without central water-supplies and electricity.

On Friday night, the landslide, caused by heavy rains, destroyed two pylons of high-voltage power transmission lines and 500 metres of water-pipe. As a result, the town of Buinaksk (Daghestan's centre) and two neighbouring villages were left without water and electricity.

Now the people are supplied with water from tank-trucks. The reconstruction of the destroyed power transmission line started in the morning. The site of the landslide was taken under permanent control.
