UK to leave EU next year

The British Conservatives won the General Elections that took place on Thursday with a 12-seat majority. One of the key points of David Cameron's campaign was an in/out referendum. The referendum on whether Britain should stay in the EU will have to be held by the end of 2017.

However, David Cameron is reported to be on its way to carry out the pledge by a year.

If Britons vote to leave the EU, this means the country could technically start severing its ties by the end of 2016.

According to the government sources, Cameron is keen to move the referendum forward to capitalise on Tory support and to avoid being caught up in the French and German elections in 2017.

Thus, Britain could leave the European Union as early as next year.

Latest surveys show that only 23 per cent of the British citizens have a generally positive view of the EU. Noteworthy, that only the Greek have a lower rating. i.e. of 22 per cent.
