USA unveils new fiber laser gun system

U.S. company Lockheed Martin unveiled a laser gun that can be used for combat purposes. According to the company, the new fiber laser uses the technology that combines multiple beams of different wavelengths, allowing to achieve new results.

The system has a number of advantages, including not only minimal power consumption, but also significantly lower heat generation, which thereby reduces the dimensions of the radiator.

The tests of the new fiber laser system have already been held and were found successful.

At the end of November 2013, the U.S. Air Force released a request to create a laser weapon for sixth-generation fighter jets, which will come into service after 2030. The tests of the system are to be held in 2022.
