Russia-European Union 10th summit to take place in Brussels

The Russia-European Union 10th summit will take place on Monday in Brussels. It will be attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Russia-EU summit will be held in the building of the Council of the European Union. The problems to be discussed at the summit include the progress of the reforms in Russia, the situation in the North Caucasus, the organisation of the transit between the Kaliningrad region (Russia's enclave in the Baltic) and the rest of Russia, security of atomic power stations, disposal of nuclear waste, prospects of Russia's accession to the WTO, and the fight against terrorism.

The summiteers are expected to sign agreements on the transit of people and freight between the Kaliningrad region and the rest of Russia after the Baltic countries and Poland enter the European Union. The European side intends to come to agreement with Russia concerning the package of measures on Kaliningrad which would reflect "the unique situation" that is arising in the region in connection with the expansion of the European Union.
