Canada 's PM to Meet with Obama in White House

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper is to meet with U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington on Sept. 16, officials from the Prime Minister’s Office said Friday.

The trip will mark Harper’s first trip to the U.S. capital since Obama was elected president, The Edmonton Sun reports.

In Washington, a spokesperson for Obama commented on the planned visit, saying: "Canada is a close ally and partner of the United States, and the President looks forward to discussing a broad range of bilateral, hemispheric, and global issues" during the Harper visit, The Toronto Star reports.

Meanwhile, the two leaders have already met several times. Harper hosted Obama in Ottawa on Feb. 19 for a one-day visit. It was Obama's first foreign trip after being inaugurated.

Harper and Obama are also meeting this weekend, along with Mexican President Felipe Calderon in Mexico. It is the first "Three Amigos" summit for Obama, The National Post reports.
