Maradona considering trip to Switzerland to shed weight

Diego Maradona has put on weight and may take a "vacation" in Switzerland to help shed the extra kilos, his doctor, Alfredo Cahe, was quoted as telling sports daily Ole in Sunday's edition.

Cahe didn't say how much weight Maradona had added, but the personal physician was cited by Ole as saying a trip to Switzerland would do the former Argentine soccer legend good by removing him from the many social commitments in his home country.

"We are looking at the possibility of him leaving the country for a little while to escape the friends and the (social) environment," Cahe was quoted in Ole as saying.

Maradona led Argentina to the 1986 World Cup championship and went on to become one of soccer's greatest players. He later battled cocaine addiction and obesity. In 2001, he was named by FIFA as one of the greatest players in soccer history, alongside Brazil's Pele.

In 2005, Maradona underwent a gastric bypass surgery in Colombia and soon after sported a thinner look.

While Cahe didn't specify how much Maradona weighed currently, the former soccer star had been reported to be seen frequenting restaurants and night clubs of late, reports AP.

The doctor said a trip to Switzerland would help Maradona to nutritional guidelines that would specifically help him battle "water retention."

But Cahe did not say where Maradona might go in Switzerland and exactly when.
