Russian skater Yulia Lipnitskaya fined for failure to attend victory ceremony in China

 

The International Skating Union (ISU) fined Russian figure skater Yulia Lipnitskaya for failing to appear at the victory ceremony for winners of the Grand Prix of China, David Dore, vice president of the organization said, TASS reports.

Lipnitskaya, Sochi team tournament Olympic champion in 2014, did not come for the ceremony after she lost the fight for the gold medal in Shanghai to her compatriot Elizaveta Tuktamysheva.

"Yes, she was fined. The rules clearly state that participation in the victory ceremony is mandatory. In addition, team leaders are warned about this prior to the start of each tournament, including about the consequences of the failure to meet the requirement," said Dore.

According to the rules of the Grand Prix, failure to attend a victory ceremony is punishable by deprivation of prize money. For her silver medal, Lipnitskaya received 13,000 dollars. The exact amount of the fine was not specified.
