Animal rights group rescues cats from garbage-filled house

Ten cats were trapped for a month inside garbage-filled house. They tried throwing themselves against windows and to escape and survived be drinking from a leaky faucet. They’ve been rescued by animal rights group.

An organization called El Refugio, which promotes the humane treatment of animals and the adoption of abandoned pets, said it was alerted a month ago by neighbors of a Madrid woman who had been hospitalized and left her 10 cats unattended at home.

Spanish police and members of El Refugio managed to get inside the house and found it strewn with rubbish.

They rescued the animals and all but one has survived and will be put up for adoption, El Refugio said in a statement.
