British American Tobacco develops safer cigarette

Cigarette giant, British American Tobacco (BAT), says it is developing a ‘safer cigarette'. Rumors are running around in the UK press that this new cigarette can reduce cancer risk by 90%. A spokesperson for BAT, Emily Brand, says this is not true.

Emily Brand said the company is working very hard to develop a reduce-risk product.

If you give up smoking your chances of getting cancer go down by up to 90%.

Brand said the company is looking at ways of altering the cigarette filter and changing the ingredients to make smoking safer. She added that the company is nowhere near launching a new product. It is even possible that they may never do it.

Apart from the cancer risks, smoking causes many other health problems, such as heart disease, hypertension, underweight babies, impotence, bad teeth, bronchitis and a wide range of respiratory diseases, Medical News Today reports.
