France-Costa Rica friendly sold out

All 5,000 available tickets for the France-Costa Rica benefit soccer match next week sold within hours.

The 12,000 other tickets for the Nov. 9 friendly have been reserved by workers committees, local government bodies, and the French Soccer Federation.

"It's not every day that the French team comes to Martinique and we can see so many French West Indian players," the president of Martinique's football league Alain Rapon said on Friday, the day after the tickets sale.

The match is raising funds for the families of victims of the West Caribbean Airways plane crash in Venezuela on Aug. 16. Of the 160 killed, 152 were residents of Martinique.

Local interest was also high for the six French West Indies players in the France side: Lilian Thuram, Thierry Henry, Sylvain Wiltord, Florent Malouda, Eric Abidal, and Nicolas Anelka, who will make his first appearance for Les Bleus since April 2002, AP reported. V.A.
