Kim Clijsters had a career payday at the U.S. Open.

By defeating Mary Pierce 6-3, 6-1 and winning the women's singles title Saturday night, Clijsters earned $2.2 million - double the top prize and the richest payday in women's sports.

With the prize money from just this tournament, Clijsters would be 62nd on the WTA Tour career earnings list ahead of Tracy Austin ($1,992,380); Billie Jean King ($1,966,487); Virginia Wade ($1,542,278); and Evonne Goolagong ($1,399,431).

The big paycheck boosted Clijsters' career earnings to $12,522,849, putting her into the top 10 among women tennis players. Asked what she was planning to do with the money, Clijsters said, "I don't know. I haven't thought about it, so I have no idea."

Clijsters also got a new car, a 2006 Lexus GS 430 sedan. Lexus, the official vehicle of the 2005 U.S. Open and official sponsor of the men's singles, also presented a similar car to Roger Federer after he won the men's title, AP reports.
