Russian armed forces to be reduced to 1 million

The size of Russian effective armed forces will be reduced to 1 million people, said the Head of Russian General Staff, Colonel-General Anatoly Kvashnin.

According to Kvashnin, primarily, the strategic nuclear forces will be downsized.

The majority of arms have already gone through the structural reforms. Now, it is only the matter of "refinement", that is, the improvement of professional qualities of the staff, the general was quoted as saying in an interview to the "Rossiiskaya Gazeta", which is to be published on Saturday, July 27.
