Young Russian scientists to get presidential grants

The Government of Russia has passed a resolution endorsing a statute on the allocation of presidential grants for young Russian scientists and their academic supervisors. This was disclosed to RIA Novosti here today at the government-information department.

According to this statute, young Russian scientists aged under 35, i.e. Cand. Sc. degree holders defending innovative theses, as well as their academic supervisors, shall be entitled to such grants.

A young scientist will be receiving a two-year grant, that is, 24,000 roubles per year; meanwhile his or her academic supervisor is to get a 24,000-rouble lump-sum payment.

The Industry, Science and Technology Ministry would be expected to draft a new statute dealing with the presidential-grant council and its line-up, as well as the relevant procedure for allocating grants on a competitive basis.
