International Siberian Marathon to feature 50 runners outside ex-USSR

Some 50 runners from Britain, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, the US, South Africa and other countries outside the former Soviet Union have applied to run in the 13th Annual Siberian International Marathon in Omsk on August 3.

Among those expected are regular runners, such as Peter Leffler, who lives in South Africa now, and George Sotbinov of Australia.

The press service of the regional administration told RIA Novosti several defending champions of the Omsk run are expected to get on track, including Eduard Tukhbatullin of Ufa, who broke the marathon's record in 1993 by completing 42 km 195 m in still-fastest 2 hours 13 minutes and 2 seconds.

Also competing for the top prize - a Volkswagen car this year - will be two-time Omsk winner Mikhail Khobotov of Abakan, 1998 champion Vladimir Netreba of Penza and 1997 champion Anatoly Archakov.

In women's event, the competition is also going to get tough, with winner of tenth annual run Anfisa Kosacheva of Novosibirsk and last year's second Albina Ivanova of Cheboksary both expected.
