Russian tennis players to participate in 25th Tennis Team World Championship

The 25th Tennis Team World Championship opened in Dusseldorf. At this tournament the Russian team is represented by three players: Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Marat Safin and Andrey Cherkasov. The Russians will play their first game on Monday with the German team. Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Tommy Haas will be the first to play. Then German Nicholas Kifer will compete against Marat Safin, who lost in three sets to Swiss Rogge Federer in the major world tournament of "Masters" series in Hamburg. The match of the Russian and German teams will be concluded by the pair game. The Russian team played at the Team World Championships 9 times. The best result was 2000 finals, when they lost to the Slovakian team. Two matches have been already played on Sunday. In the "blue" group, where the Russians play, tennis players from Spain beat the team from Great Britain 2-1. In the only game in the "red" group the French team beat the dreadful American team.
