In 2001, Emergencies Ministry Units Have Rescued Over 11,000 People

The total of 932 emergency situations have taken place in Russia for the 9 months of the current year leaving 1,024 people dead. Over 11,000 people have been rescued. This statistics was announced Friday during the all-Russian convention of the Emergencies Ministry top officials. Participants in the convention noted that the Russian Emergencies Ministry had taken an active part in international humanitarian operations, including delivery of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan and mine clearance in Kosovo. Minister Sergey Shoigu said one of the ministry's major tasks for the next year was establishment of a state rescue service.
