Trade Union activist murdered in Brazil

A Trade Union activist, member of the opposition Workers’ party (Partido Trabalhista) has been shot dead in Rio de Janeiro.

Another murder of a political opposition figure has taken place in Brazil. Aldanir Carlos dos Santos, president of the Electricity Workers’ Union, was shot dead last Saturday with a single shot to the head in Bangu, Rio de Janeiro.

39-year-old Aldanir was disputing a place in the Workers’ Party as a candidate for the Presidential Elections in 2002.

His car was stopped at traffic lights when three men approached him. One fired the shot which killed him before the men ran off.
