Anatoly Karpov Drew Against Chinese Chess Player In The First Game Of 1/64 Round Of The World Championship Final

Russia's famed chess player Anatoly Karpov drew against little known chess player Zhang Pensjang in the first game of 1/64 round of the World Chess Championship which was taking place in Moscow. On the first day of the tournament, favourites Pyotr Svidler of Russia and Aleksander Shirov, Spain, defeated, correspondingly, Argentine's Alexandro Hoffman and Aimen Rizook, Algeria. As to the women's tournament, Maya Chiburdanidze from Georgia outplayed Asma Houley from Algeria. The prize fund of the championship is USD 3,000,000 for men and USD 500,000 for women.
