Contract-Based Army To Have More Volunteers

Military surgeons forecast an increase in those willing to join the Russian army in case it adopts a contract system, head of the central military medical commission, General Kulikov told journalists Thursday. According to the general, in 1992, the year when the contract system was first introduced, some eighteen per cent of the draftees appeared to suffer from various diseases. "Besides, some 1200-1300 men are annually dismissed from military service for health reasons."
