Kasparov-Kramnik Supermatch Opening In Moscow

From December 1 to 9, Moscow's Hall of Columns will host a super chess match between Garry Kasparov and Vladimir Kramnik. The match will include all the three types of chess games - classical, rapid and blitz. The match has been timed to coincide with the 90th birth anniversary of the sixth world chess champion, Mikhail Botvinnik. It concludes a series of Russian chess tournaments of various levels. On December 1, 2, 4 and 5, Kasparov and Kramnik will play one classical chess game a day. Six rapid chess games (30 minutes per game) will be played on December 7 and 8 (three games a day). Finally, on December 9, the grandmasters will play ten blitz games (five minutes per game). No games will be played on December 3 and 6. Kasparov and Kramnik have previously played 98 games between themselves. Of 40 classical chess games, Kramnik won five, lost four, and drew 31 games. Kramnik has a better record in blitz games, too: nine wins, seven defeats and 12 draws in 28 games. Kasparov outplayed Kramnik in rapid chess games: of 30 games, he won six, lost five and drew 19. In their first game on Saturday, Kramnik will play white.
