A theoretical conference, "American culture: globalisation and regionalism", just held in Moscow by the society of American cultural studies and the Moscow University journalism department, gathered experts from Russia, the USA, Canada, Czech Republic, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Estonia. Under review were prospects for the development of the electronic mass media in the USA and Russia, competition of global and regional television networks and tendencies of the evolution of the ecological theme on the pages of periodicals. American guests made a point of the fact that American culture, in particular journalism and literature, owe a lot to Russian immigration. There were sections discussing the American drama and women in American culture as well as the state of modern prose, the ethnic component in US culture and interaction between American and world cultures.
