UNESCO Top Award to Be Given to Russian Composer Khrennikov

On Monday night, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and the Vivat public charity fund will hold a formal party devoted to the presentation of the joint awards of UNESCO and the fund.

As the organisers said, the presentation of the Mozart medal - the highest award of UNESCO for the great contribution to the development of world culture - to People's Artist of the U.S.S.R. and Russia, composer Tikhon Khrennikov will take place in the course of the party.

The programme of the party includes a concert involving works by Russian and foreign composers.

The Russian public charity fund in support of music and theatre art, Vivat, was set up in 1999 on the initiative of the Union of Theatre People of Russia, the Film-Makers' Union of Russia, and a number of prominent cultural figures and artists.
