Moscow Sums up 1st International Journalist Contest

Moscow has announced the results of the first international journalist contest, "Russia - Time of Changes". The grand prix was granted to a German correspondent from the Rheinischer Merkur newspaper, Michael Rutz. A contest organiser and head of the Russian humanitarian foundation, the Chekhov Centre, Viktor Konin, said this Wednesday in Moscow.

This contest held from January 2001 to December 2002 in six nominations was organised to support foreign journalists covering Russian developments as well as to determine the most interesting and unbiased journalistic articles devoted to Russia, he said.

"The contest was aimed at resolving certain issues like the promotion of unbiased information about life in Russia, improvement of understanding between foreign journalists and the Russian society, development and strengthening of friendly relations between Russia and other countries," Viktor Konin said.

He believes the contest will help attract foreign journalists' creative potential to a constructive dialogue with the Russian society and ways of resolving common problems facing the world community. It will also encourage journalists to find and analyse real results of Russia's political, economic and social development.
