Russian Grandfather Frost, Finnish Santa Claus to meet in Yakutia

Russia's Grandfather Frost will leave his home town of Veliky Ustyug in the Vologda region on March 19 and set out to the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), where the 'cold pole' is located.

In Yakutia, Grandfather Frost and Santa Claus will take part in a tourist festival, a spokesman for the Vologda regional government told Interfax.

The program includes an extreme car race for cross country motor vehicles used in the northern territories.

In Yakutsk, Grandfather Frost and Santa Claus will visit the Mammoth Museum, child-care centers and orphanages.

On March 22, they will fly from Yakutsk to the village of Tamtor, where a tourist festival, a competition of reindeer breeders, reindeer sleigh races, and a meeting with participants in the car race will be held.

The 'cold pole' is located not far from Tamtor, and temperatures there sometimes drop below minus 70 degrees Celsius.
