Taiwan Pirates Mock at Minister

Taiwan Minister of Justice Chen Ding-nan promised to crack down on the computer and other kinds of piracy in the country after he saw a mocking inscription “Chen Ding-nan try to catch me” on a bootleg product.

The minister saw the inscription on a CD cover of the latest movie about James Bond, Die Another Day. The film hasn’t been yet released in Taiwan. The minister said: “It is an open challenge to the government; if you consider yourself men, don’t try to escape responsibility.”

Taiwan is the country known for its legal climate that is rather favorable for copyright violators. Despite the fact that the legislation of Taiwan in the sphere of piracy has been recently adjusted to the international standards, these laws are still poorly observed. The USA estimated the damages caused by Taiwan’s bootleg products to the sum of 300 million dollars per year at the minimum.
