The Ice-Hockey Junior World Championship /for players under 20/ started in Canada on Thursday. The Russian team in group A won a landslide victory over the USA team 5:1.
In the first period, two goals had already been scored by Russian Aleksander Ovechkin.
In the second period, the Americans caught up with the Russian team by a goal, scored due to the efforts of Patrick O'Sullivan. However, before the second period ended, the active World Champions had no more doubts concerning the winner of the game: Kirill Koltsov scored the third goal and a little later set the first hat-trick of the Championship.
The final goal of the game was scored by Yury Trubachyov /1 goal, 2 assists/, who became the hero of the game together with Ovechkin.
In the other game of group A, the Swiss team defeated Belarus - 4:2.
Group B game results are as follows: Germany - Finland - 0:4; Canada - Sweden - 8:2.
The Russian team will play its next game on Saturday, December 28th, against the Slovakian team.
The Americans came to realise that they would have to either leave the region or weaken their presence there. It is Russia that is filling the vacuum now
