Russian Culture Ministry to attend to Russo-Armenian University in Yerevan

The Russo-Armenian /Slav/ State University has been included in the sphere of the Russian Culture Ministry's activity, Russian Culture Minister Mikhail Shvydkoi reported at the second session of the University Board.

According to him, in line with an intergovernmental agreement the Russian budget for 2003 will allocate some 255,000 dollars for the accomplishment of the construction of the university building and for the construction of a Thanksgiving Park around the building. The minister reported that Russia would allocate some 40 million roubles ($1 dollar is equal to 31.82 roubles) for the construction and more than 700,000 roubles to repair the conference hall.

Mikhail Shvydkoi said that the Russian Culture Ministry would organize meetings between the university's students and Russian famous theatre and cinema actors. He gave the university more than 100 film video cassettes from the 20th-Century Classics series.

The makeup of the Board of the Russo-Armenian State University were approved by an order of the Armenian education and science minister and the Russian culture minister. Georgy Boos, deputy chairman of the Russian State Duma, is the Russian co-chairman of the University's Trustee Board and Armen Darbinyan, University rector, is the Armenian co-chairman.
