Bolshoi Theatre's reconstruction to last for five years

According to preliminary estimates, the reconstruction of the BolshoiTheatre may last for five years, the Bolshoi's General Director AnatolyIksanov said in an interview with RBC. According to him, the main buildingof the theatre will be closed once a year for several months, includingsummer, for a total of five years, for example, from May 1 until October 1.The concept of the Bolshoi Theatre's reconstruction was changed at the endof the last theatre season. This decision was aimed at preventing damagesto the troupe and the repertoire of the theatre. According to earlier plans, the theatre was supposed to close for threeyears, but it was decided later to implement a stage-by-stagereconstruction of the theatre. In view of that, Iksanov pointed out in theevent the specified scheme was realized, the state's financial burden woulddiminish, since the funds would be allocated for three, not five, years.Additionally, in 2001 another building was transferred for the BolshoiTheatre's needs. As it is known, the completion of the auxiliary building'sconstruction was scheduled as the first stage of the overall theatre'sreconstruction. This rehearsal and technical building will bridge the gapbetween the main building of the Bolshoi Theatre and its subsidiary. .
