The editorial team of Time magazine has released its list of the best video games of 2025. At the top of the ranking is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, an RPG developed by the French studio Sandfall Interactive for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. The editors praised the game as a "sudden emergence from nowhere,” created by a small team of just 30 people.
Following Clair Obscur, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach took second place. This action-adventure title, exclusive to PlayStation 5, was developed by the renowned game designer Hideo Kojima. Third place went to Ghost of Yotei, another PlayStation 5 exclusive.
The rest of the top ten includes Split Fiction, Silent Hill f, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Lost Records: Bloom and Rage, Doom: The Dark Ages, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, and Marvel Rivals.
Time noted that 2025 was a challenging year for the gaming industry. Modern games have become significantly longer, often requiring 60 to 100 hours to complete. "On one hand, that's great. Spending $70 (about 5,400 rubles), I want a game that matches the price,” the editors concluded.
For context, the best video game of 2024 according to Time was Age: The Veilguard. Additionally, in October 2025, the magazine highlighted the year's top inventions, including the Apple AirPods Pro 3, Fujifilm Instax Wide Evo camera, Tecno Megabook S14 laptop, Oura Ring 4 smart ring, and other innovative gadgets and technologies.
