Residential Building Explosion in Moscow Leaves Casualties

Yesterday, at 11:10 p.m., in Moscow, there was an explosion in the residential building at 32 Korolyova Street. There are casualties. According to the Interfax news agency, the 5-storey building is seriously damaged. The center of the explosion seems to have been in the first floor in middle of the building.

According to the headquarters set up for the liquidation of theconsequences of the explosion, destruction is similar to that in the buildings previously exploded in Moscow, although not so extensive.

By this time, five dead bodies have been discovered at the site of the explosion. According to the NTV TV company, one of the dead is a 6-year-old girl. Six more people have been rescued alive. One of them is a woman who has suffered severe burns of about 80% of her body.

About 350 rescuers and 84 units of machinery continue working in the exploded building. A total of 48 people are known to have resided in the collapsed part of it. Of them 22 are fine. Another 12, as has been found out, were out of town on the night of the explosion. The remaining residents have been evacuated from the building.

The rescuers say there is no evidence that this was a terrorist attack and presume gas explosion. However, neighbours say they smelled cordite. A criminal investigation has been initiated.
