Poll results show Russians believe in accident on Kursk

About a third of Russians (28 percent) believe that the Kursk nuclearsubmarine sunk due to an accident. This data was revealed in a publicopinion poll conducted by the Russian center for public opinion studies onJuly 26-29, 2002, among 1,600 Russian citizens in 83 settlements located in33 regions and republics of Russia. These results are accurate within 3.8percent. 26 percent think that the Kursk disaster occurred because the crewwas not ready to test new equipment. 16 percent of respondents believe thatthe submarine sunk due to negligence of the crew. 17 percent named an actof sabotage as the cause of the tragedy and 13 percent were undecided..
