An international conference on warning about and preventing extraordinary situations opens in Saint Petersburg

An international Russian-Swedish conference on warning about and preventing extraordinary situations at the local level opens in St. Petersburg on Monday.

As RIA Novosti was told in the All-Russian Centre of Emergency and Radiation Medicine, on whose basis the forum will be held, apart from Russian and Swedish representatives, the conference will be attended by representative of the UN Environment Programme Fritz Balkau and representatives of Finland.

The delegation of the Russian Emergencies Ministry will be headed by Deputy Minister Yury Brazhnikov, the delegation of Sweden - by Lars Hederstroem, Deputy Director General of the Swedish Rescue Service, and the delegation of Finland will be headed by Timo Viitanen, the Interior Ministry's Adviser.

The conference will also be attended by the heads of the main departments of civil defence and emergencies of the Federation constituents of the North-Western Federal District.
