73% of Russians Approve of President Putin's Performance

73% of Russians approve of President Vladimir Putin's performance in office. This conclusion was reached by experts at the All-Russian Centre for Public Opinion Research. In March Putin had the support of 72% of the people, compared to 75% in March 2001, a year after his election. 20% of Russians disapprove of his performance (24% in March 2002 and 19% in March 2001). Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov has the support of 43% of the Russian people. 38% disapprove of his performance.

On average, 59% of those polled were happy with their governors' actions, while 35% were dissatisfied. A year ago the figure for those satisfied with their governors was higher. 30% of people rate the actions of the President's plenipotentiary in their district positively. This figure has remained fairly consistent for the last two years. 38% of people are dissatisfied with their plenipotentiary, which is also a stable figure.

The poll was carried out between July 26 and 29. 1600 people from 83 towns and villages in 33 regions took part.
