Rosaviakosmos announced on Wednesday that the launch of a Proton-K rocket with the European Space Agency's Integral satellite on board would not be postponed. It will go ahead as planned on Thursday, October 17th at the Baikonur space centre in southern Kazakhstan.
A Rosaviakosmos source said that the European Space Agency had not asked for a delay, despite losing a Photon-M satellite in a rocket crash at the Plesetsk centre on Tuesday. According to him, the ESA trusts the Baikonur management who have provided reports on the launch preparations for the Proton-K rocket with the Integral satellite on board. When commenting on the loss of the Photon-M satellite, ESA specialists said that they worked with highly complicated technology, which, unfortunately, went wrong on occasions.
Rosaviakosmos has announced that the Integral satellite is set to explore star clusters in deep space.
