Leaders of Orthodox and Catholic churches may meet for the first time in history

The heads of the Catholic and Orthodox Churches - Pope Francis and the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill may meet for the first time in history, Italian publication Corriere della Sera said with reference to Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, who chairs the Department of External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate.

However, the clergyman stressed out that the meeting between the Pope and the Patriarch could take place only on neutral territory. So far, there is no possibility for Pope Francis to visit Moscow. Austria and Hungary have already proposed holding the meeting on their territories.

Pravda.Ru previously said that Pope Francis spoke of the wish to meet with Patriarch Kirill last year. However, the event was postponed because of the conflict in Ukraine, which the Vatican perceived as an obstacle.
