Oscar Pistorius' career ends with prison sentence of five years

Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius was sentenced to five years for manslaughter of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. The crime took place on February 14, 2013. The athlete was also sentenced to three years on probation for possession of firearms, reports RT.

Earlier, the athlete was found guilty of causing death by negligence. During the sentencing, Pistorius burst into tears.

Prosecutors wanted the South African amputee athlete Oscar Pistorius jailed for at least ten years for killing Steenkamp.

The athlete was barred from taking part in any sports competitions if released early. The sentence has thus put an ends to the sports career of the South African Paralympic runner Oscar Pistorius, aka Blade Runner.

Pistorius killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp taking her for a burglar. Pistorius fired his gun several times at the locked bathroom door. The girl was fatally wounded in the head, arms and chest.
