Boy liberated from parasitic twin in India for $80,000

Indian surgeons performed a revolutionary operation on a 7-year-old boy, who had eight limbs. Deepak Paswan, a boy from the Indian state of Bihar, was known as an incarnation of the god Vishnu because of his congenital abnormality. This god is very often depicted with more than four limbs.

Deepak had additional pairs or arms and legs growing from his abdomen, which meant that the boy had four legs and four arms, but one head.  Deepak's mother was pregnant with twins, but the embryos began to develop wrongfully. As a result, Deepak was born with a parasitic twin conjoined to his abdomen.

When the boy was born, many local people thought that Deepak was a devil incarnate. Many thought that his birth marked the beginning of the end of the world.

The surgery took place in a clinic in Bangalore. The operation continued for four hours, Rosbalt reports. The child has already recovered from the operation and feels normally, medics said.

The price of the operation was unbelievably high - $80,000. The boy's family would never be able to afford it. However, the surgeons agreed to conduct the operation free of charge, Arguments and Facts newspaper reports.

"He is 100 percent fit," said chief surgeon Ramcharan Thiagrajan. "Due to all the mockery and stigma he has faced he is very restless and nervous. But now after this successful operation and counseling he will lead a normal life," he added.
