"The Beautiful Life: TBL." to Be Canceled This Fall

It was announced, the CW is planning to stop production on Mischa Barton's new TV show, "The Beautiful Life: TBL."

According to Variety, an ugly showing in ratings caused the network to pull the plug on the fashion series. The magazine reports that another CW drama -- most likely "Melrose Place" -- will air reruns in the Wednesday night time slot.

The show, loosely based on the experiences Ashton Kutcher had as a model, portrayed Barton as a model struggling to make it back to the top after taking a hiatus from the fashion world. In July, production on the show was halted after Mischa was admitted to a Los Angeles-area hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. Barton later told reporters that her hospitalization was due to the results of a "terrible wisdom tooth surgery," Extra TV reports.

It was also reported, after just two episodes have aired, The CW has pulled the plug on "The Beautiful Life: TBL," a drama executive produced by Ashton Kutcher about young models living in New York.

The first of fall's new shows to be canceled, "TBL" premiered to just 1.5 million viewers last week. Wednesday's episode was seen by only 1 million. "Melrose" that is likely replace the series in the Wednesday 9 p.m. time slot has seen drops in viewership since its Sept. 8 premier but recently coaxed back original "special guest star" (and surefire ratings draw) Heather Locklear, who will return to multiple episodes beginning Nov. 17., The Los Angeles Times reports.

News agencies also report, in the months leading up to its debut, the star of "The Beautiful Life" Mischa Barton got more media attention than the show itself. Troubled actress was hospitalized in July and placed under involuntary psychiatric hold. She later reportedly received a 'sober coach,' who stayed with her at all times to make sure she doesn't relapse.

"Mischa is doing great since she returned to work, but after a chat with show bosses she agreed she would appreciate some extra support," a source said.

But a rep for the actress insists the reports of a sober coach are "not true," Parade Magazine reports.
