Barack Obama Calls Kanye West "Jackass"
President Barack Obama called rap star Kanye West a "jackass" for his rudeness at the MTV awards on Sunday.
West stormed the stage in New York to tell the crowd Beyonce should have won best female video prize.
Since then he has called Swift personally to apologise.
Speaking before a press interview, Obama said: "I thought it was inappropriate, it's like she's getting an award, why are you butting in?"
"The young lady seems like a perfectly nice person, she's getting her award, what's he doing up there?"
Whilst chatting with CNBC reporter John Harwood, Obama made an off the cuff remark: "He's a jackass."
Since the incident, West has admitted he had been in the wrong and that he was sorry.
Swift told ABC News Radio that she had heard from West since the ceremony.
"He was very sincere in his apology and I accepted that apology."
But she told the US chat show The View, that his behaviour had "rattled" her, BBC News reports.
In the meantime, ABC News' Terry Moran tweeted the president's off-the-cuff comment about West to his 1 million-plus followers on Twitter.
In an attempted retraction, Moran, a "Nightline" co-anchor, later removed the tweet from his Twitter feed. But once on the Web, always on the Web."TerryMoran: Pres. Obama just called Kanye West a "jackass" for his outburst at VMAs when Taylor Swift won. Now THAT'S presidential," read the now infamous tweet.
It turned out that Obama's remark was not meant for public consumption.

"In the process of reporting on remarks by President Obama that were made during a CNBC interview, ABC News employees prematurely tweeted a portion of those remarks that turned out to be from an off-the-record portion of the interview," ABC News explained, apologizing to the White House for the slip-up. "It was wrong."

West since has apologized repeatedly for his outburst, including on Monday's premiere of "The Jay Leno Show" and in a phone call to Swift on Tuesday. But judging from reaction to the president's unpublished but widely tweeted remarks, Obama was not alone in his unofficial summation of the West story,
Chicago Tribune reports.
British R&B singer Estelle thinks she knows what spurred the rapper's bad behavior at the Video Music Awards.
"I honestly think that Hennessy had something to do with it," Estelle said Monday at the Maritime Hotel, where Marc Jacobs and his crowd partied to toast the designer's collection.Estelle, who shared a Grammy with West for their '08 collaboration "American Boy," was referring to the cognac, and not actress Jill Hennessy, in fashion-land the other day for the Cynthia Rowley show, Newsday reports.
