Russian film that won Venetian festival will be shown in Cairo

The 27th International Film Festival has opened in the Egyptian capital of Cairo.

"Our film festival is one of the most prestigious in the world. Suffice it to say that under the classification of the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIPF) it is among the eleven most representative in its kind film festivals," president of the film forum Cherif al-Shoubashy told a RIA Novosti correspondent.

In the days of the festival (October 7-17) Cairo cinemas and clubs will show 210 films; only 18 of them will take part in the contest of the festival.

Between the opening and the reception a new French adventure film "Bon Voyage" with Gerard Depardieu was shown. The female role was played in it by inimitable Isabelle Adjani who is a guest of honor at the festival. In general, the organizers of the festival dedicated it to the French cinematography. It is expected that altogether 55 French films will be demonstrated in Cairo during the ten days.

Outside the contest program, the Cairo spectators will have a chance to see some seven or nine Russian films, including the debut film by young Russian producer Andrei Zvyagintsev "The Return" which won two highest awards at the Venetian festival of 2003 and was nominated for the Oscar Prize.

The jury of the contest at the 27th Cairo Film Festival includes also the master of Russian cinematography, producer Sergei Solovyov.
