Russians to take part in Riga festival

The 6th Riga Opera Festival opens in the capital of Latvia.

The festival will start with the Riga Opera's premiere of Benjamin Britten's "The Turn of the Screw" staged by Czech director Jiri Nekvasil in 2000 in Prague. It will also show Haendel's "Alcina", Mozart's "La Balle de Masque" and Verdi's Requiem.

The festival will end with the tour of the Moscow Bolshoi Theatre that will perform on June 17-22.

The Moscow Theatre will give two performances at the stage of the Latvian National Opera, Sergey Prokofiyev's "L'amoure des trois oranges" staged by Peter Ustinov on June 17 and 18 and Giacomo Puccini's "Turandot" staged by Italian director Francesca Zambello and stage director, chief conductor of the Bolshoi Theatre Alexander Vedernikov on June 21 and 22. The leading roles are performed by Vladimir Matorin, Sergei Gaidei, Vyacheslav Voinarovsky, Maria Belcheva and other opera stars.
