Exhibition of Vasily Kandinsky opens in Barcelona

An exhibition of Russian artist Vasily Kandinsky has opened in Barcelona.

The exhibition, which has been given the name of "Kandinsky. Blurring the Form. 1900-1920," has been organised in Pedrera, which was built by the big Catalonian artist Antonio Gaudi.

The forty-four Kandinsky's canvases, out of which 11 are from the Tretyakov Gallery, are arranged in such a way that a visitor to the exhibition would be able to see how the founder of abstractionism was gradually passing from classic forms of depiction to avant-garde forms.

"In the diverse creative activity of Kandinsky, which combines theoretical searches with practical ones, the period of 1900-1920 is especially interesting. At that time the artist made a real revolution in the world of fine arts," said Yekaterina Seleznyova, a department head in the Tretyakov Gallery and one of the directors of the exhibition in Barcelona Yekaterina Seleznyova.

The exhibition will be open till September 24 and then will go to Madrid.
