International Exhibition of Arms And Defence Technologies Ended in Brazil

The 4th international exhibition of arms and defence technologies for Latin America LAD-2003 closed in Rio de Janeiro on Friday. About 250 firms and companies from 51 countries participated in its work.

Russia was represented at the exhibition by ten enterprises of the Russian military-industrial complex.

As head of the delegation of the Rosoboronexport State Unitary Enterprise Igor Sevastyanov told the RIA Novosti correspondent, the Russian stand at the show roused the keenest interest among specialists. Delegations of the Ministries of Defence, the land forces, the Air Force, the Navy and the special forces of almost all the countries of Latin America visited it during the four days of the work and held talks with the Russian side.

According to Sevastyanov, after the war in Iraq the greatest interest in Russian weapons is displayed with a tilt towards anti-tank weapons, radioelectronic struggle media and air-defence ground-to-air systems.

The Brazilian military specialists displayed heightened interest in the Russian grenade-launchers because of the tender for the replacement of the T-4 grenade-launchers which are in service, slated to be held in the immediate future. Special attention was given to the Russian small arms, in particular, to the products of the Kovrov plant - the automatic weapons for special forces. The Brazilian side advanced the proposal to hold a demonstration of the operation of some types of Russian small arms in Brazil.
