Russia registers efficient vaccine against Ebola

At a government meeting on January 13, President Putin announced the development of a cure for Ebola.

"We have good news, I ask the Minister for Health to tell us about it. We have registered a cure for Ebola. The tests of the drug have showed high efficiency - even higher than the drugs that are still used in the world," RIA Novosti quoted Putin as saying.

In late December 2015, the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova said that Russia submitted documents for the registration of the Russian vaccine against Ebola.

An outbreak of Ebola was recorded in February 2014 in Guinea. Afterwards, the virus spread to neighboring Sierra Leone and Liberia. The disease has killed more than 11,000 people; 28,000 were infected with the virus.

Hardly had Russia registered its newest vaccine against Ebola, when the government of Guinea sent a request to deliver the vaccine to the country.

Guinean medics want to study the Russian vaccine and compare the Russian and the American vaccines, Russian Health Minister Veronika Skvortsova said. 

"We have received a request from the Pasteur Institute of Guinea to launch the introduction of our two drugs in a comparative study that is being conducted with Americans on the vaccine developed by US company Merck," the minister said.
