Remnants of Hurricane Bertha lash UK

After leaving the North American Continent as Hurricane Bertha, the weather cells rushed across the Atlantic Ocean and today lashed England and Wales bringing floods and strong winds of up to 83 km/h.

The storm entered the country from the West, ravaging the coasts of the Scilly Isles and Cornwall, then moved across Wales and all of Southern England. The storm caused 38 flood alerts. Train and ferry services were disrupted with links between the Scilly Isles and Cornwall and certain routes across the English Channel to France were cut along with others between the English mainland and Ireland and the Isle of Man.

The RideLondon-Surrey 100 cycle race was shortened to avoid the high areas of Leith Hill and Box Hill in Surrey.

The storm then swept northwards, covering the Midlands and North of England. It is expected to blow itself out by tonight.
