The state Assembly's Republican minority conference is calling for legislative measures to reduce a nursing shortage in the state.
Republican Leader James Tedisco says the five-bill legislative package would help ease a nursing shortage that he describes as a threat to quality health care.
The measures would provide educational and financial incentives to attract and retain nurses.
A recent Health Care Association of New York State report says four out of 5 New York hospitals face a nursing shortage. The report also referenced a federal finding that New York could have a shortage of 37,000 nurses by 2015.
