iGate Mastech to pay fine for violation of Immigration and Nationality Act

iGate Mastech will pay $45,000 as part of a settlement with the federal government that accused the firm of showing a preference for H-1B temporary visa holders in its job vacancy ads.

Mastech is a $130M subsidiary of iGATE Corporation which provides U.S.-based staffing services in the areas of Business Intelligence, Service Oriented Architecture/Web Services and Enterprise Resource Planning, through a global recruiting and technical resource management model. Additionally, Mastech provides talent acquisition in the areas of financial/accounting and permanent placement services. Mastech has operations throughout the United States, Europe and Asia, and was launched in 1986.

The firm published 30 job postings with such content in spring 2006, thus launching employment discrimination and violating the Immigration and Nationality Act's provisions.

Another part of the settlement requires iGate to train its recruiters and to post a "nondiscrimination statement" on its Web site.
