Wyeth and Upjohn to overturn Arkansas verdict involving hormone replacement drugs

Wyeth, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, and its co-defendant Upjohn, a pharmaceutical manufacturing firm owned by Pfizer, are going to file an appeal against decision in an Arkansas trial involving its hormone replacement drugs.

Yesterday the Arkansas court ordered Wyeth and Upjohn to pay more than $27 million in compensatory damages. Donna Scroggin, the plaintiff, blamed the hormone drugs (Premarin and Prempro) for her breast cancer.

The defendants have found the verdict unfair and are going to overturn it. The reason of such actions is the companies’ conviction that there is no basis in fact or law for the stated award.

Currently the company (Wyeth) faces a lot of other hormone-replacement cases across the country. But it justly claims that the drug is approved by FDA and it’s the matter of doctors and their patients if any problems raise.
