Ingushetia premier wounded after assassination attempt

The head of the government of a southern Russian region bordering Chechnya was wounded on Thursday in a blast, a spokeswoman for emergencies service said.

She said that Ibrahim Malsagov was rushed to hospital after his car was destroyed by the blast in Ingushetia's key town of Nazran, reports Reuters.

"An investigation team is at the scene, establishing the cause of the blast," the official said.

There were conflicting reports on the number of casualties, with some sources saying two people had died and several had been injured.

Ingushetia, in the North Caucasus, borders the war-torn province of Chechnya, where a continued insurgency has regularly spilled over into neighbouring areas, informs Forbes.
